Singtel and M1 have taken a decisive step in the fight against digital fraud by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enable network-based authentication for their mobile subscribers. This collaboration aims to leverage telco application programming interfaces (APIs) to enhance security and verification in digital transactions, aligning with industry standards set by the GSMA.
The MoU aims to federate a suite of APIs that will enable enterprises to access real-time telco network data for authentication and fraud detection. The initial focus will be on federating APIs such as Number Verify and Device Location, with plans to incorporate more APIs in the future.
The agreement, inked by Singtel Managing Director Enterprise, Mr. Lim Seng Kong, and M1 Chief Enterprise Strategy and Business Officer, Mr Mark Tan, signifies a strategic alliance between the two telecommunications giants. Witnessed by Singtel Singapore CEO, Mr. Ng Tian Chong, and M1 CEO, Mr. Manjot Singh Mann, the signing ceremony took place at Singtel’s Future Innovation Centre on March 4, 2024.

The federation operates by the GSMA Open Gateway framework, ensuring universal access and swift deployment across different mobile networks. This initiative aims to bolster security, enhance user experience, and pave the way for a secure and resilient digital future for all.
