Honeywell and Analog Devices Collaborate to Transform Building Management Systems at CES 2024

Honeywell and Analog Devices, Inc. have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to embark on the digitization of commercial buildings. The strategic alliance aims to leverage digital connectivity technologies for upgrading building systems without the need to replace existing wiring, offering a cost-effective solution that minimizes waste and downtime. This move signifies a pivotal step toward bringing cutting-edge technology to building management systems.

A substantial number of commercial buildings in the United States, as reported by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), are outdated and inefficient, with the majority constructed before the year 2000. The surge in data transmission demands within organizations has led to an increased reliance on networking technology, driving a need for upgraded cloud storage and processing speed. The collaboration between ADI and Honeywell seeks to address these challenges by digitizing building management systems. This transformation allows real-time decision-making to reduce energy consumption, improve network performance, and enhance security, all without incurring extensive costs or requiring significant remodeling efforts.

Martin Cotter, senior vice president, Industrial and Multi Markets, and president of ADI EMEA region, expressed excitement about the collaboration, stating, “In this next phase of our work together, we are thrilled to see these ADI technologies move beyond factory automation and into Honeywell’s building management system to help customers reduce building energy consumption, which can save money, improve resiliency, and help meet emissions reductions goals.”

Suresh Venkatarayalu, Honeywell’s chief technology officer, highlighted the transformative impact of the collaboration, saying, “This collaboration with ADI would offer building owners the ability to upgrade and enhance their wiring without a significant upfront investment, and with less labor and environmental impact.”

Honeywell plans to integrate ADI’s single-pair Ethernet (T1L) and software configurable input/output (SWIO) solutions into its building management systems. ADI’s single-pair Ethernet provides long-reach connectivity with the possibility of utilizing existing wiring, reducing installation time, costs, and waste. The implementation of this technology promises enhanced connectivity from the edge to the cloud, eliminating data islands and optimizing asset utilization in building management systems. Additionally, ADI’s solutions facilitate a streamlined product development process, allowing for a single version of the product catering to diverse needs, resulting in increased installation speed, reduced inventory requirements, and enhanced adaptability to changes.
