Edamah and Badia Farms Forge Strategic Partnership to Boost Sustainable Farming in Bahrain

Bahrain Real Estate Investment Company (Edamah), the real estate arm of Bahrain Mumtalakat Holding Company (Mumtalakat), has announced a strategic partnership with Badia Farms, a leading controlled environment food producer. The collaboration involves a multi-million dollar investment in a new sustainable farm in the Kingdom of Bahrain, bringing innovative agricultural techniques to the forefront.

Badia Farms, renowned for its mission-driven sustainability efforts and expertise in controlled environment agriculture, is set to play a pivotal role in transforming Bahrain’s farming landscape. As part of the Bahrain-based Green Corp food investment management platform, backed by the Gulf Islamic Investment group (GII), Badia Farms has been at the forefront of revolutionizing conventional farming methods across the GCC through technology, science, and innovation.

The initiative will see Badia Farms leasing an area of 50,000 sq.m. from Edamah in Hamala, Bahrain, to implement sustainable and urban farming practices. Leveraging the latest hydroponic farming techniques, the project aims to produce a diverse range of fresh fruits and vegetables year-round. By incorporating solar panels for clean energy generation and recycling water and biodegradable matter for reuse, the farm will prioritize environmental sustainability.

His Excellency Shaikh Abdulla bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, CEO of Mumtalakat and Chairman of Edamah said, “This collaboration with Badia Farms marks a transformative step for Bahrain’s agricultural sector, contributing to the Kingdom’s long-term economic growth. It will contribute to Bahrain’s self-sufficiency in food production by using cutting-edge technologies for a greener future, whilst creating employment and business opportunities for Bahrainis.”

He added, “This foreign direct investment on Edamah’s land, channeled specifically towards innovative agricultural practices, showcases our confidence in Badia Farms’ approach and underscores the potential for further growth and development within the sector.”

Eng Omar Al Jundi commented, “Our partnership with Edamah allows Badia Farms to bring pioneering hydroponic farming techniques to Bahrain, redefining sustainable agriculture. Together, we aim to build a resilient food system, focusing on environmental management and food security.”

The signing ceremony, attended by key dignitaries including Her Excellency Noor bint Ali Al Khulaif, Minister for Sustainable Development and CEO of the Bahrain Economic Development Board (EDB), showcased the commitment of both Edamah and Badia Farms towards sustainable development and economic growth in Bahrain.

Through this strategic partnership, Edamah and Badia Farms are set to pave the way for a more sustainable and prosperous future for Bahrain, setting new standards in agricultural innovation and environmental stewardship.
