Cooperative Bank of Oromia Launches CoopApp and CoopApp Alhuda on Temenos Digital Platform

Temenos announced that Cooperative Bank of Oromia (Coopbank), one of Ethiopia’s largest banks, has introduced CoopApp and CoopApp Alhuda on the Temenos Digital (Infinity) platform, ushering in a modern digital banking experience tailored for conventional and Islamic banking, catering to over 12 million customers.

Ethiopia, with one of the lowest rates of financial inclusion, takes a significant stride forward with the launch of CoopApp and CoopApp Alhuda, providing accessible and user-friendly banking services online and via mobile apps.

Utilizing Temenos Digital, Coopbank has gained a holistic 360-degree view of customers, enabling personalized financial products and services to be tailored to individual needs, offering a unified banking experience across various touchpoints, including online banking, mobile banking, ATMs, and in-branch services.

Having relied on the agility and scalability of the Temenos Banking Platform for core banking since 2017, Coopbank has significantly expanded its customer base and lines of business. Extending its partnership with Temenos, the bank went live with Temenos Digital in September 2023, with Xpert Digital as the delivery partner.

The strategic alliance with Temenos underscores the bank’s commitment to harnessing cutting-edge technology to meet the diverse needs of its customers. Alongside Temenos Digital and Core, Coopbank has implemented leading Temenos solutions, including Temenos Payments Hub and Temenos Data Hub, to drive innovation and foster positive change in the Ethiopian banking landscape.

Deribie Asfaw, CEO of Cooperative Bank of Oromia, remarked, “The Coop App and Coop App Alhuda Omni-channel are a testament to our commitment to providing seamless, accessible, and user-friendly banking experiences for all our customers, an integral part of our digital-first strategy. This collaboration with Temenos, renowned for innovation, ensures the robustness and scalability of the Coop App Omni-channel platform, which aims to set new industry standards for banking technology in Ethiopia.”

Lee Allcorn, Managing Director, Middle East & Africa, Temenos, congratulated Cooperative Bank of Oromia on the successful launch, stating, “With this launch, the bank demonstrates the rapid time to value of our digital banking solution, leveraging the latest technology to reimagine the banking experience for more than 12 million customers. It is exciting to see this pioneering bank using the Temenos platform to drive innovation and bring positive change in Ethiopia for its customers and society.”
