Careem Launches Ramadan Initiatives to Support Communities Across Jordan

Careem, a leading ride-hailing and food delivery platform, has announced the launch of several Ramadan initiatives aimed at giving back to communities across the Kingdom during the holy month. As part of its ongoing commitment to social responsibility, Careem introduced a dedicated Ramadan car type, enabling customers to contribute 1 Jordanian Dinar (JOD) to every ride they take, with Careem matching the donation. The collected funds will be donated to Tkiyet Um Ali to provide Ramadan meals to those in need

The introduction of the Ramadan car type underscores Careem’s dedication to making a positive impact on local communities. Contributions made through this initiative will support the “Mawaed Al Rahman Program,” which serves approximately 4,000 Iftar meals daily throughout Ramadan in various governorates across Jordan.

In addition to the Ramadan car type, Careem in Jordan has introduced a donation feature called “Eat a Plate to Fill a Plate,” allowing customers to donate 1, 2, or 3 JODs with their food orders from selected restaurants. Proceeds from this initiative will also go to Tkiyet Um Ali, further aiding their mission to provide meals to those in need during Ramadan.

Commenting on the announcement, Antonio Al Asmar, GM of Careem Rides in Jordan, UAE, Kuwait & Morocco said: “At Careem we share the joy of this holy month with the community, and we are proud to bring this Ramadan car type which will enable many to take part in giving back to those in need. For every Careem ride taken during the holy month using the Ramadan car type, customers will have the option to contribute towards making a difference in our community”

“This initiative in partnership with Tkiyet Um Ali is in line with our ongoing commitment to bringing a positive impact to the communities we are part of across the region, and a reflection of our commitment to transforming lives and fostering a spirit of giving during Ramadan.”

Samer Balkar, General Manager of Tkiyet Um Ali, expressed gratitude to Careem for their support, highlighting Tkiyet Um Ali’s crucial role in assisting families in need across Jordan.

Tkiyet Um Ali is known for its sustainable food aid programs, providing monthly parcels containing essential nutritional items to families living in extreme poverty across the Kingdom.

Since its launch in Jordan, Careem has been actively involved in community initiatives, and Ramadan is no exception. The Ramadan car type and “Eat a Plate to Fill a Plate” initiative are now accessible on the Careem app in Jordan, allowing customers to contribute to community welfare while taking rides or ordering meals throughout the holy month.

Careem is also hosting Ramadan iftar events for Captains (drivers) from across the Kingdom, and company colleagues are participating in meal packing and distribution efforts to further support the community during Ramadan.
